A recent study by researchers at the University of Glasgow, in partnership with the AHRC’s Place Programme, highlights that understanding how people experience their local communities is key to developing more effective approaches to innovation and growth. The study argues that policy approaches which focus on economics and geographic and administrative boundaries are unsuccessful in addressing persistent spatial inequalities. Instead, it proposes that a people-centred approach, which incorporates identity and everyday experiences of place, allows for more inclusive and sustainable forms of innovation to help deliver meaningful change.
