Research led by Professor Tim Lenton at the University of Exeter is identifying opportunities for climate action by triggering positive tipping points to help contribute to net zero and a more sustainable future. Global Tipping Points brings together a community of researchers and practitioners from a variety of disciplines to provide evidence and updates on global tipping points, explore designs of international policy and governance structures, and convene partners to take climate action. The team have hosted conferences to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration, and have published the Global Tipping Points Report 2025 which consolidates knowledge on how to govern tipping points, the risks they pose, and the opportunities presented by acting on positive tipping points. Research from the team also includes using modelling to understand which policies are most effective at accelerating tipping points in sectors including power, heating and transport.
