Director for the Centre of Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship, Aston University

Professor Monder Ram was elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences in spring 2021. He is recognised as one of the foremost international scholars and visionaries leading research in ethnic minority entrepreneurship, which has benefited diverse and overlooked communities.

In line with his research to deepen understanding of diversity and entrepreneurship and generate and share knowledge with practitioners, Monder led the Access to Finance: Promoting productive bank – small firm relationships project. This is the first and largest research project on ethnic minority banks and businesses in the UK. The findings were an important reference point for financial and business support stakeholders working with ethnic minority entrepreneurs. Following this he developed activities to implement insights from this study in his role as Co-Chair of the national Diversity and Inclusion Business Council (2014–16).

Monder is currently a member of No. 10’s Working Group on Employment and Entrepreneurship, reporting to the Commission on Race and Equality.
