We have launched a new equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) resource hub as part of a joint project between the Academy working in partnership with its member Social Science Societies and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Primarily focused on sharing knowledge with learned societies, the new hub draws together free good practice EDI guidance from across the Academy, our member societies and other organisations. Specifically, it focuses on how to embed and prioritise EDI across six areas: governance and leadership, funding, membership, events, publishing, and research groups and networking communities. It also features resources related to accessible design and inclusive language.
The study, research and understanding of EDI is, in many different ways, an inherent part of most social science subjects, with EDI issues including ethnicity, racial diversity and inclusion, gender equality, and socio-economic inequalities affecting various groups and places throughout time. The EDI Project aims to encourage and facilitate greater awareness of, and actions to support, EDI across social science learned societies in the wider community. By working together to share resources and learning, the project strives to maximise the potential to effect real and positive change.
The new hub is only one part of the EDI Project. The Academy has available small scale grant funding from ESRC to support EDI initiatives and interventions across social science societies. We will be announcing the recipients of this funding later this autumn.
