Academy of Social Sciences is hosting their 24th AGM and 2023 Annual Lecture given by Professor Lucie Cluver

We are delighted to be able to host this year’s 24th Annual General Meeting and Annual Lecture in person on 5 June 2023. The AGM is open to all Fellows and representatives of our member social science societies. We do hope that you are able to join us.

The Annual Academy Lecture will be given by Professor Lucie Cluver (University of Oxford and the University of Cape Town) on the topic of:

‘Can social science protect us against global threats?’

We are facing a future of next pandemics, climate change and political polarisation. Social science has the potential to play a fundamental role in building resilience of children and youth against these global threats. This lecture will explore challenges and questions raised through policy-focused research in HIV, COVID and climate hazards, beginning in sub-Saharan Africa and moving across continents as shared threats, and possible shared solutions, emerge.

The Annual Lecture is open to Fellows and non-Fellows to attend.
