Academy of Social Sciences and British Academy to commission new research analysing REF2021 Impact Case Studies

The Academy of Social Sciences is delighted to announce it is working in association with the  British Academy to commission research analysing the REF2021 Impact Case Study data for the SHAPE (Social sciences, Humanities and Arts for People and the Economy) disciplines, with an invitation to tender launched today.

The research project presents an excellent opportunity for systematic analysis and evaluation of the contributions and cumulative effects of the SHAPE disciplines for people, society, economy, and policy in the UK and the world.

An important element underpinning the commissioned research is that it will be a deeply evidenced-based and creative analysis of the characteristics, typologies and diverse understandings of what impact looks like in the SHAPE research community and why.

The collaboration brings together the British Academy’s interests across all the SHAPE disciplines and the Academy of Social Science’s focus specifically on the social sciences sector.

The findings and conclusions emanating from this project will provide a solid evidence base on which both organisations, and others, can articulate and advocate for the value of research in SHAPE disciplines collectively and individually, and in the arts & humanities and social sciences sectors,  to decisionmakers in governments and in influential higher education policymaking circles, as well as across the wider research community.
