Call for new Campaign Board members

The Academy’s Campaign for Social Science is seeking to appoint a small number of new members to serve on its advisory board.

Chaired by Professor Bobby Duffy, the Campaign’s Board, which reports to the Academy’s Council and whose members include both academics and social scientists working in the public and private sectors, supports the Campaign in its work to showcase and promote the voice of social science in policymaking, the media and beyond academia.

Established in 2011, the Campaign for Social Science is an initiative set up by the Academy of Social Sciences to demonstrate how social science improves public policy, society and all our lives. Supported by a coalition of universities, social science societies, and publishers, the Campaign highlights the value of applied social science research and advocates for its greater use in decision-making and in government.

To support the work of the Campaign’s Board, we are seeking applications from high profile social scientists with strong public policy networks which include policymakers and decision makers. Applicants with demonstrable experience of working to connect social science research with public policy would be particularly welcomed.

We would also especially welcome applications from senior practitioners in business or industry who regularly use social science research and can advocate for its value when applied practically. Additionally, applicants with strong experience and skills in developing and delivering campaigns, communications strategies, and public and policy engagement activity are also encouraged to apply.

To ensure the Board reflects the rich diversity of UK social science, we actively encourage applications from social scientists in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, early/mid-career researchers, those with a disability, and those from an ethnic minority background.

The Board meets three times per year and members are expected to attend meetings and use their expertise to support and promote the work of the Campaign. Appointments to the Board are for an initial three years’ duration, with the potential to renew for another three years. Board members are unremunerated, but travel and related expenses for Board meetings in central London are paid.
